Steadfast is the 2016 capstone project for all game development students at Norco College. I had the privilege of managing a small team of talented young sound designers and composers as the audio lead for this project. Aside from team management and assisting with sound design, composition, and voice overs when necessary, my primary duty was to polish all of the audio assets my team had created and prepare them for implementation in the game engine. This included making minor edits, mixing, and mastering both sound effects and music, as well as orchestrating the music. I was also in charge of implementing the audio in the Unity game engine, a task which included a fair amount of coding in C#. Included here is the trailer from the game as well as the music from the title screen and opening cinematic.

For this project, I was asked to compose a piece based on a given four-bar motif. Starting with a bold statement of the motif in the first section of the piece, I used various techniques to reshape and transform that melody throughout the piece, as well as enhancing it with my own melodies. The inspiration for this piece was the locations and environments in the game Final Fantasy XIV, published by Square Enix. (Special thanks to Brady Kerr for composing the original four-bar motif.)
Sintel is independently produced short film initiated by the Blender Foundation. When I learned that Sintel had been released under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, “free for everyone to distribute, learn from, or re-use,” I became excited by the idea of re-imaging the score. This clip represents my musical vision of Sintel’s opening scene.

Beards & Glory follows a horde of “Viking gate crashers” as they “sack castles and strongholds across the world.” I had the opportunity to work with Blind Squirrel Games to compose and orchestrate original music for this innovative action platformer. I notated this piece using Finale, then fine-tuned the MIDI file in Pro Tools. I then rendered the piece in Pro Tools using Garritan virtual instruments. The music presented here is the same track that can be heard in the finished game.

I had the privilege of working with Oregon-based developer Soma Games to design sound and compose an original theme for a game demo showcasing Intel’s RealSense technology that was exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2014. In the game, an ice-powered superhero battles a villain born of fire! Here’s the music for your enjoyment.
Audio is my specialty—whether in the concert hall, on film, or in a video game. Each form of media offers a unique means of expression and sonic storytelling that I love to explore. The pieces on this site represent some of the works of which I am most proud, and I am very excited to share them with you. Enjoy!
